Policies and Basic Concepts

The business activities of the Inabata Group benefit from ecosystem services that are underpinned by the rich biodiversity created through relationships between many different organisms. In various ways, our business activities also have an impact on biodiversity. Recognizing this, we strive to conserve biodiversity primarily through business activities and social contribution activities such as using water resources efficiently, reducing water consumption, and using forests, fisheries, and other natural capital in a sustainable manner.

Furthermore, we have identified the “sustainable use of natural capital” as a materiality issue.

System (Governance)

Please refer to the System (Governance) section on the Environmental Management page.

Main Initiatives: Handling MSC- or ASC-Certified Products

In terms of sustainable use of natural capital, we promote handling Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified marine products caught by sustainable fishing practices that consider marine resources and the environment, and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified marine products that are produced by sustainable aquaculture. These products are mainly sold in the European and US markets where environmental awareness is high.

Main Initiatives: Donating to the Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund

The Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund (KNCF) supports environmental projects by nongovernmental and other civil society organizations through grant programs. Projects it supports include natural resource management for biodiversity conservation, protection of rare plants and animals, afforestation, and environmental education.

Inabata endorses the aims of the KNCF and donates to the fund on an ongoing basis. Through these donations, we support natural conservation efforts worldwide.
